Is it a coincidence that 2 out of every 3 dogs we rehab has anxiety and that (according to some sources) human anxiety is at an all-time high?
Dogs are anxious because they are trapped in a world they don’t understand, aren’t being fulfilled instinctually, have very little purpose that fulfills their needs, and don’t feel safe or understood by their humans.
Imagine being dropped off in a remote village of a country where you don’t speak the language, don’t understand the culture/customs, and don’t know the laws. You have no tour guide, no body guard, and no translator. You don’t know where to go, what neighborhoods are bad, what restaurants are good, who to trust, etc.
One day they’re throwing a parade for you. The next you’re arrested and the judge is telling you what you did wrong but you can’t understand her.
How much stress, anxiety, and confusion would that create?
Now.. imagine going to that same village with a tour guide, body guard, and a translator.
You know where to go, what to do, you feel safe, you understand the expectations/laws, you can communicate with locals.. let’s enjoy all this place has to offer!
I call that a vacation.
