FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you work with all breeds, ages, sizes and temperaments?

Yes. Our motto is any dog, any breed, any size, any age, any problem! We have experience working with all types of dogs and behavioral issues – from the most minor to the most severe. There are, however, some requirements in order for dogs to come stay with us (Please read the next FAQ).

What are your requirements?

Behavioral Training requirements are listed below. If your dog does not meet all of them, Private Consultation is a great option!

Most of our services are reserved for clients who have already gone through a Board & Train program. We limit the number of dogs we take in for our services in order to provide an environment that nurtures rehabilitation

General Requirements:

  • Dogs must be at least 6 months old (If your dog is younger than 3 months old, please check with us on our waiting list. It’s very possible your dog will be 6 months old before we can get them in.
  • Must be spayed/neutered if older than 7 months old at the time of the training. (If your dog is not spayed/neutered, please consider our Private Consultation options).
  • Must pass an evaluation
  • Must meet our vaccination requirements (Please read the next FAQ)

Structured Boarding and Daycare Requirements:

  • Dogs must meet all of the “General Requirements” above
  • Plus, they must have already graduated from one of our Board & Train programs.

What vaccines are required?

For the health and safety of everyone, dogs entering BDB must have proof of the following vaccinations:

  • Rabies Vaccine (1 or 3 year)
  • Bordetella Vaccine (every 6 months and must be given 48 hours before arriving at BDB)
  • Annual DHLPP Vaccines (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus)

If your dog is long overdue on required vaccinations, we will require vaccinations be administered at least two weeks before visiting. You or your vet can email proof to us (info@bevilldogbehavior.com), or you can upload to your profile by logging into your account.

All dogs over 7 months old must be spayed or neutered before coming to BDB. All dogs must be on tick/flea prevention.

Do you offer a guarantee? What happens if my dog doesn't learn or respond?

Yes. We guarantee your relationship with your dog will improve, your dog’s behavior will improve, and your leadership skills will improve. You will accomplish those things, or we’ll continue working with you and your dog until you do.

This is a team effort. Once you hire Bevill Dog Behavior, you are a part of our family and we will do our best to ensure you get the results you want! However, due to the number of variables involved in creating a well-behaved dog, it would be impossible to guarantee 100% results for any animal. They are not robots. They are living, breathing, thinking, beings with needs and desires that respond to the environment they are in. It is our job as owners to try to understand them and provide for them in a way that fulfills them as animals.

Our training approach has proven itself time and time again, but if the owner does not learn and practice our leadership principles and does not follow through on our training techniques, the results cannot be guaranteed. Thus, we choose to work with clients that are ready to roll up their sleeves and do the work needed to fulfill their dogs in a way that creates calm and balance!

I have tried other trainers before and didn't get the results I desired - what makes your program and approach different and more effective?

You’re not alone. Most of our clients and their dogs have been to other trainers. In fact, we are often the last hope. Unlike other training approaches that only focus on the dog’s physical state via manipulation or negotiation using food/treats and verbal commands, we focus on the human-dog relationship and work to change the dog’s state of mind – how they view the world. Once we address the dog’s state of mind and teach the human to lead in a way that the dog understands, respects, and follows, the sky is the limit on where you can take it.

By creating new associations, teaching and rewarding “calm,” making the human the source of “all good things,” teaching the humans leadership skills that dogs follow, and teaching dogs patience, we continue to rehabilitate dogs that others found too challenging to help.

What type of equipment and methods do you use? Do you use treats to train dogs?

We use a variety of tools and techniques depending on your dog’s needs. Some of the tools we use include: our energy, body language, space, sound, leashes, food, treats, affection, toys, play, our balanced pack of dogs, treadmills, weighted backpacks, crates, head halters, prong collars, e-collars, and bark collars. We use our evaluation process, along with the goals you have for your dog, to decide what equipment and methods are best for you and your dog.

We don’t heavily rely on a treat and command-based training program. Our philosophy is built around the human-dog relationship – teaching the human to lead and influencing the dog’s state of mind. That said – we do use food/treats when we need to motivate or redirect a dog in order to accomplish something that is challenging for that particular dog.

I can't book my reservation online. What's wrong?

Most likely you are past our deadline. We require reservations to be booked by noon the day before drop-off. If you are past the deadline, simply text our business line (972-850-6149) and we will get you booked if room allows.

How soon can I get my dog in for training?

We typically have a 4-9 month waiting list for our Board & Train Program; however, we can get you in for a Private Consultation much sooner.

Who will be working with my dog?

The entire BDB team will work with your dog at different stages of its stay. All trainers have been trained by Brad and use the same methods he uses. In most situations, Brad will be on-hand personally, but he will not be the only trainer working with your dog. He will, however, proof all dogs before they go home, and he will make every effort to be at each go-home and follow-up session.

In an effort to expose the dogs to different environments, experiences, energies, and handlers, it is common for us to have more than one trainer work with them in public spaces (outside of the BDB Experience Center) during their stay. We are looking to provide the best possible end-result. Sometimes that means changing environments so we can give your dog the repetitions he/she needs in order to be rehabilitated. Each environment offers unique experiences, and we will do what it takes to get the best possible result

What do I do when I arrive for an evaluation, drop-off, or pick-up?

When you arrive, please stay in or next to your car. If you are on time, a BDB employee should be outside waiting on you. If there is not someone outside waiting on you, simply text our business line (972-850-6149) to let us know that you have arrived, and someone will be out shortly.

Because we are rehabilitating numerous dogs with serious behavioral issues, please do NOT walk through any gates or knock on any doors/gates. Stay in or next to your car until we meet you out front.

How should I handover my dog at drop-off?

Please have a slip leash or flat collar/leash on your dog BEFORE letting them out of your car. Do NOT let your dog out of your car off-leash! You can either get your dog out of your car on-leash and calmly hand them over to a BDB staff member or you can leave them in the car (on-leash) and a BDB staff member can calmly invite them out of your car.

What should I expect when I drop-off my dog for Board & Train?

Expect to be sad that you’re leaving behind your best friend! 🙂 We know how much you love your dog and how hard it can be to leave them behind! But we want to make the drop-off experience as easy as possible on your dog so their first experience with us is a good one! There probably will not be a long conversation or a long good-bye. You can obviously ask us any questions you may have, otherwise, we will simply take the leash and food and be on our way. As you drive away, know that your dog is in great hands of people who genuinely love your dog and want what is best for them!

Do I need to provide food for my dog while he/she is with you?

Yes. Please bring your dog’s food pre-portioned by meal in Ziploc bags inside a bag or sack that has your dog’s name written on the outside. We feed twice daily. This means: if your dog is with us for the 5 weeks, you will put 70 Ziploc bags/meals in a larger bag with your dog’s name on the outside of the larger bag.

We have some clients who feed their dogs raw food. We have a freezer and refrigerator to store food while they are here.

Do NOT bring your dog’s food loose in the bag you bought it in or another container. We will ask you to bring it back prepared as described above. We do not have room to store large food containers. Please only bring enough food for your dog’s stay with us. We do not need bowls or scoops.

If your dog ends up staying with us longer than expected, we do have high quality food we can feed your dog; however, new food can upset some dogs’ stomachs. In this scenario, it’s best that you bring more food to us for the extra days your dog will be staying.

Who can/should we bring to the go-home and follow-up session?

The go-home and follow-up sessions are imperative for your dog’s success. While we love kids, we don’t want the dog’s primary caretakers to be distracted, so please do not bring kids to the go-home session if they aren’t old/mature enough to sit for 2.5-3 hours to listen and learn.

Anyone who is actively involved in the dog’s life on a daily basis, is welcome to attend the go-home and follow-up sessions. This includes anyone who lives with the dog and any house staff that interacts with the dog on a daily basis (e.g., housekeepers, nannies, and assistants). Please do not invite friends or family members who are not actively involved with your dog on a daily basis.

Where will the go-home session take place? What about bad weather?

The go-home session will take place at BDB Dallas. While we do have indoor space when absolutely needed, most training sessions will occur outside – so please dress accordingly. Assume you will spend at least two hours outside working with your dog.

What else do I bring?

You simply need to bring your dog’s food as described above – and please have a slip leash or flat collar and leash on your dog for drop-off and pick-up. No harnesses, prong collars, or chain collars will be kept on dogs. We have blankets, beds, toys, bowls, scoops, and treats! Please leave yours at home so they don’t get mixed-up with ours!

What are your drop-off and pick-up times?

Drop-Off Times: Monday – Friday: 7:30am – 8:30am & 4:30 – 5:00pm; Saturday & Sunday: 4:30-5:00pm
Pick-Up Times: Monday – Friday: 7:30am – 8:30am & 4:30 – 5:30pm; Saturday & Sunday: 4:30-5:30pm

Please book specific drop-off and pick-up times through our online system, Gingr, and be respectful of those times so we can give as much attention as possible to the dogs in our care.

Where do they sleep?

All dogs sleep inside in our climate-controlled kennel room along with our trainer’s resident dogs.

Will my dog come home clean?

No – they will not come home clean. Your dog will be a dog during their stay with us. They will be outside socializing, training, playing, going on pack walks, trotting next to a bike, going out in public, and rolling in every good smell they find. Your dog will go home needing a good brushing and a bath. However, they will be the happiest they’ve ever been and will go home much smarter and calmer than when they arrived.

My dog has a history of biting dogs or humans. How long will it take to train him/her?

Are reservations required?

Yes. Reservations should be made through our online system, Gingr. We realize sometimes life happens, so we will do our best to accommodate last minute reservations and/or changes to reservations.

What is your cancellation policy?

If Behavioral Training, Shadow Program, or Matchmaking reservations are canceled with at least 3 weeks notice, the deposit will be applied to your account for future use. If Behavioral Training, Shadow Program, or Matchmaking reservations are canceled within 3 weeks notice, the deposit will not be refunded nor added to the account for future use.

If boarding reservations are canceled with at least 24-hours notice, the deposit will be applied to your account for future use. If boarding reservations are canceled within 24-hours notice, the deposit will not be refunded nor added to the account for future use.

Will I get to see my dog during Board & Train?

We don’t typically allow family visits during the rehabilitation/training process (unless our trainers feel you need extra training sessions with your dog). We totally understand it can be hard to be away from your dog, but we find the owner’s presence can often set back the progress.

Will BDB administer my dog’s medication?

Absolutely! We will administer your dog’s medication while he/she is staying with us. We ask that you bring only enough for your dog’s stay and that the medication be in the original medicine bottle so we know exactly what we’re giving and when.

What happens if my dog gets sick or injured while at BDB?

We will immediately make every attempt to contact you or your emergency contact if there happens to be any illness or injury. If we cannot reach you, we will seek veterinary attention.

Do you have live cameras so I can see my dog?

No, we do not. However, we do post to IG Stories and Facebook daily. And you can always call or text for an update!

How do I schedule a follow-up/private session, and are evening and weekend appointments available?

Private sessions can be scheduled through our online system, Gingr. And yes, we do our best to work with your schedule. We offer evening and weekend appointments for our clients’ convenience, but they do fill up very fast.

How and when do I pay?

The easiest way to pay is to save a credit card to your online profile and simply pay when booking a service. We accept all major credit cards, checks, Venmo, and cash.

Board & Train Program: 50% payment required when booking to reserve dates, and the completion of the payment is due at drop-off.

All other services: 100% payment required at time of booking.

Is your company insured and bonded?

Yes. We are fully insured and bonded.
